Disney Parks and Beyond - A Disney podcast for all things Disney

Dining a Sanaa Kidani Village

On the bottom floor of Animal Kingdom Lodge's Kidani Village is a mystical restaurant known as Sanaa. Sanaa in Swahili means, "Work of Art".

This is one of Disney's most beautiful restaurants. The restaurant boast of slow-roasted cooking methods and tandoori oven cooking. Its cuisine consists of African and Indian cuisine.

I decided to take my family to Sanaa and since we were staying at Kidani we simply took the elevator to the first floor. Once off the elevator we were met with beautiful works of art.

I checked us in and received a pager. The seating was very lovely as well, as we sat and waited for the pager to let us know it was time to go to our table.
We did not have to wait long as we were paged less than 10 minutes after checking in. We had a table next to the window and I highly recommend requesting a table next to the window especially if it is day time. You can see the Animals right from your table. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance with several beautiful lights. In the middle of the restaurant is a beautiful Acacia tree with holes through out which represents the Giraffe's eating spots.

We started with: Indian Style Bread Service - Choice of 3 breads and 3 accompaniments $11.49; get all 9 accompaniments for $13.99;
Breads - Naan, Garlic Ginger Naan, Spiced Naan, Onion Kulcha, Papadum
Accompaniments - Red Chile Sambal, Cucumber Raita, Coriander Chutney, Mango Chutney, Coconut Chutney, Garlic Pickle, Spicy Jalapeno-lime pickle, Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus, Tamarind Chutney
$11.49 / $13.99
This was amazing. My favorites sauces were the Cucumber Raita and the Mango Chutney. The bread service was plentiful and very tasty giving each person a wide variety of taste from mild to very hot.

Next up was the Sample of Salad Trio:  Three salads: Chickpeas with Cucumber and Tomato; Watermelon, Cucumber and Fennel; Nigerian root vegetable and citrus $7.49
This was very refreshing. My favorite was the Nigerian root vegetable and citrus, it was sweet and sour. The watermelon, cucumber and fennel was nice as well as the chickpeas with cukes and tomatoes.

I ordered the soup of the day which was a creamy tomatoe with what looked like croutons but actually was chunks of cheese, another amazing dish. So good.

Moving along to our entree's my husband and I both ordered the same thing.
Traditional Sosatie - Braai Lamb with Apricots, butternut squash, bacon, cashews, and goat cheese $21.99

I loved this entrée. I love goat cheese so I requested a bit extra and it came with a lot. The meat was so tender and juicy and the apricots and squash had a nice flavor. The best part of this entrée for me was the bacon, goat cheese and cashews on the bed of green. It was so good and my husband also loved this dish.
My daughter order the Potjie Inspired - choice of two served with basmati rice or five-grain pilaf: butter chicken; spicy durban shrimp; chickpea wat; tomato spiced eggs; paneer tikka; cilantro-coconut milk seasoned vegetables; goan seafood curry; braised beef; lentil dhal; roasted okra, cashew and tomato stew; $25.49 except Jenna order potatoes instead of the rice.
She really enjoyed the braised beef and the potatoes as well as the butter chicken. In her exact words, Delicious.
By this time we were very full; however, we wanted to try the deserts for this review of course:)

We tried the Tanzanian Chocolate Mousse - Kenya Coffee and Caramel $5.99 with a pot of Press Pot Coffee - Kenyan AA $6.79

The coffee was rich and flavorful, very nice addition to our meal. The dessert was magnificent. The chocolate moose was very nice and creamy.

I have eaten in a lot of Disney's sit down restaurants and I can tell you IMHO this was one of the very best. From the very moment you sit down you realize this is going to be a gorgeous experience. Rather its you and your partner on a romantic date or your entire family you are sure to have a wonderful time at Sanaa.

To me having a nice sit down meal with your family is price-less but if you must know I paid roughly 125.00 with a 25.00 tip bringing my total to 150.00. Its not a meal I would have ever day; however for a nice occasion it is perfect.
